Hidden Interview Question
Shhhh!! Don’t tell anyone about this blog, it’s a secret. This is the blog that could give YOU the edge over your competition when you are competing for a job. Knowing this hidden question exists can help, knowing what it is will help impress the interviewer and possibly get you through to the next stage of the process.
So before reading on check behind you, is there anyone peering over your shoulder? …are you sure?
After years of recruitment and career coaching experience I have always been amazed at the lack of preparation applicants do for their interviews (and throughout the job search process to be honest). Getting a new job can be one of the most important (and in the current climate) one of the hardest things you find yourself having to do. This can be made all the more difficult and stressful if your circumstances are such that you need to get a role ASAP! So if this is such an important process for you to go through, wouldn’t you want to be the best prepared you could possibly be? Wouldn’t you want to work on your technique, find out what you are doing wrong and how you can improve your game plan?
One way of lifting your performance at interviews is to understand the “Hidden Interview Question”. This is a question that is so hidden, many interviewers don’t even know they are looking for the answer to it. But I can assure you it’s there….. I would almost guarantee it with the only exception being recruitment consultants, but actually they are wanting to know the answer to a very similar question. Answer this question well and you will be at least one step ahead of the competition for the position you are applying for.
So are you ready for the question? The simple truth is that every person that interviews you has in the back of their mind the need to know “how are you going to make my life easier” as simple as that. Be it the company board recruiting a CEO, a Sales Manager recruiting a Sales Rep, the Engineering Manager looking for an engineer, an Office Manger wanting a receptionist, an IT Manager wanting a IT specialist or whatever, they all want to know and have confidence that you will be able to make their life easier.
Now I know that this hidden question can be developed further for specific roles. “How are you going to make us more efficient?” or “How are you going to make us more money?” or “How are you going to make a positive impact on the growth of our business?” But fundamentally, all of the above means that the life of the person interviewing you is going to be so much easier. So even if the interviewer doesn’t specifically ask you these types of questions, they are still wanting to know the answer to the hidden question.
So there you have it, I have told you the hidden question that all interviewers have at a conscious or subconscious level. If you ensure that you have this question in mind through out your interview you will be one step ahead of everyone else.
I encourage you to do your interview preparation and find out ways to improve your approach and technique. In todays market you can’t afford not to and if you are getting interviews and not getting the job then there is something not right and if you keep doing what you are doing, you will continue to get the same results.
